Why silk helps locs
Cotton pillowcases grip your hair and shed tiny fibres. Every time you turn over, your locs rub against the fabric, which loosens the roots, roughs up the surface and leaves fluff caught in your hair. Silk is smooth, so locs slide over it instead of catching.
- Less frizz and fewer loose hairs at the roots
- Less lint and fluff stuck in your locs
- Less friction on fragile or thinning locs
- Keeps moisture in your hair rather than soaking it into cotton
Why black?
Loc oils, butters and head wraps can mark a light pillowcase. Black hides those marks, so it looks clean for longer between washes.
How to use it
Use it on its own, or with a satin sleep cap for extra protection. If your locs are long or very frizz-prone, a cap plus a silk pillowcase gives the best result. See our guide to sleeping with dreads for more ways to protect your locs overnight.
Care
Wash on a cool, gentle cycle (a laundry bag helps) with a mild detergent and line dry out of direct sun. Don’t use bleach or fabric softener.
Shipping
We ship worldwide at a flat rate per order: Australia $9.95, New Zealand $14.95, the US, UK and Canada $19.95, and the rest of the world $24.95 (USD).
FAQs
Silk or satin: which is better for locs?
Both reduce friction. Silk is a natural fibre and breathes well. Satin is a weave that’s usually cheaper and easier to wash. Either is better than cotton.
Do I still need a sleep cap?
Not always. A silk pillowcase alone helps a lot. A cap adds protection if you move around a lot at night or your locs are long.
